Young & Restless Shocker: Hunter King Recast as Summer

Ever since The Young and the Restless re-signed Michael Mealor as Kyle, fans had been wondering whether the CBS soap would next announce that it was bringing back Hunter King as Summer, too. Now they know: It ain’t happening.

On April 20, the show revealed that it had recast the role of Kyle’s bride with Allison Lanier, who you may recognize from Amazon’s Red Oaks or the indie flicks It Happened in L.A., Mia and Fish Bones. You may recall that when Young & Restless let go Mealor and King in the summer of 2021, the actress explained to Soap Opera Digest what had gone down thusly: “When these things happen [during contract negotiations], there’s a variety of reasons why they happen… It’s such an odd process [working out a business arrangement] but also feeling like it’s your family. It’s definitely weird.”

However, King said at the time that “I do hope to always have Summer in my life in some capacity. What that will continue to look like, I’m not quite sure yet, but I know that I hold her very near and dear to my heart.”

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) may rescue Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) before a car explosion. Will Ashland save his wife’s life in a moment of redemption?

During the week of April 18-22, Ashland will look forward to a new beginning with Victoria elsewhere.

However, Ashland’s in for a shock when Victoria reveals she played him.

Victoria will admit she only agreed to run away with Ashland to convince him to sign the paperwork and relinquish control of Newman-Locke.

As far as Victoria’s concerned, her relationship will be past the point of no return.

Victoria won’t think there’s any universe where she could ever trust Ashland again, so she’ll insist their marriage is over.

All Victoria will want from Ashland is a confession that his cancer was never real – that he conned her from the get-go.

Ashland will give Victoria that confession, but he’ll argue that his plan to run away together is still a good one.

Ashland will assure Victoria that his love for her became genuine and hope she’s willing to take this leap with him.

From there, this Y&R story’s going to bring some twists and turns. There’ll be a random act that catches everyone off guard – and Ashland’s actions will prove quite surprising later.

The random act may be the car accident that’s coming up during the week of April 18-22. Victoria will lose control behind the wheel, so that’ll bring a dangerous situation.

As for Ashland’s surprising actions, could he witness the crash and save Victoria?

It’d be an interesting nod to Ashland’s history since he was unable to save the real Ashland Locke from a burning car.

Ashland tried and failed to pull the true Ashland out before the vehicle exploded.

That incident led to Bobby DeFranco stealing Ashland’s identity and put him down an extremely deceptive path.

It’d be fitting for Ashland to find himself facing a similar dilemma and prove successful in saving the day this time.

Ashland might pull Victoria out of the car before it can explode – saving her life and reigniting some lingering feelings in the process.

Nevertheless, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) will stand his ground when it comes to the deal he made with Ashland.

Victor will want Ashland out of town as soon as possible.

Whether Ashland rescues Victoria or not, it doesn’t change the fact that Ashland lied about having a terminal illness. Victor won’t think Ashland is worthy of Victoria and won’t want him anywhere near the Newman family.

The dialogue brings constant hints about a deadly outcome for Ashland, so it sounds like there’s still a good chance of a murder mystery.

Who is Y&R’s Victoria Newman?

Of course, Diane’s focus will remain on reconnecting with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor), but she obviously wouldn’t mind reconnecting with Jack, too.

That could become Diane’s next goal, but she’ll try to stick to Jack’s boundaries for now.

Since family is important to Jack, he’ll want his granddaughter to live close by. Speculation is Allie will move to Genoa City, where she’ll catch the eye of Noah Newman (Rory Gibson). Fans on Reddit believe the two will become the show’s next couple, a move they support.
